Kaiman Family Camp Grant

A Gift from the family of Howard Kaiman, of blessed memory, for Jewish Summer Camp 2027

Howard Kaiman, who passed away on April 11, 2023 at the age of 93, left a legacy of service, advocacy, and deep commitment to Jewish education and community life. Born in Omaha on October 31, 1929, Kaiman was raised in a close-knit Jewish family that instilled in him a lifelong dedication to Jewish values. He attended local Omaha schools before earning his degree in Sociology and Secondary Education at the Municipal University of Omaha. Following in his father’s footsteps, Kaiman graduated from Creighton University School of Law and quickly became known as a highly respected attorney, specializing in corporate law, estate planning, tax law, and personal injury. His career included appearances before the Nebraska Supreme Court, reflecting his prominence and expertise in the field.

Kaiman’s devotion to the Omaha Jewish community was steadfast. He served on the board of Temple Israel, where he was deeply involved in community events, and on the Board of the Jewish Federation of Omaha. Kaiman believed strongly in the power of education, and he often mentored young people with aspirations in law. In a May 7, 1999, interview with the Jewish Press, he expressed his deep appreciation for his heritage, stating, “We know the beauty of Judaism. It makes the ordinary extraordinary.”

Eligibility requirements for the Kaiman Family Camp Grant include:

• This is not a need-based grant.
• Grant amounts: $2,400 per overnight camper and $250/week (up to 4 weeks, max. of $1,000) per day camper for summer 2027. JCC day camp includes J Camp, Premier, Sports, and Dance Camp and Camp Shemesh.
• The Kaiman Family Camp Grant does not apply to students who are enrolled year-round in the Pennie Z. Davis Early Learning Center. 
• Awards are capped at 96 overnight and 100 JCC day campers.
• Jewish summer residential camps must be recognized by the Jewish Federation of Omaha Foundation
• Open to Jewish residents of Omaha and Lincoln metro areas.
• Payment of the grant will be made directly to the camp. If you have already paid camp costs in full, please include a copy of your camp statement showing payment in full and you will be reimbursed directly.
• If additional support is needed, you are encouraged to apply to the Financial Aid Committee’s need-based scholarship program. Please email Diane Walker at dwalker@jewishomaha.org for more information. 

To apply for the Kaiman Family Camp Grant, complete this application in full for each camper.
