JFO Update from Ellie Novak

As the Senior Director of Development for the Jewish Federation of Omaha, I have the privilege of witnessing our community’s generosity every day. Whether it’s a family carrying forward a tradition of philanthropy, volunteers dedicating their time to our Annual Campaign, or an individual inspired by the resources of our unique campus, I am constantly reminded that our strength comes from people who choose to invest in one another.

Yesterday, we officially opened registration for our 2027 Annual Campaign Community Kick-Off on October 12, and I find myself reflecting on what this moment represents. More than event registration or the launch of another fundraising season, it marks the beginning of a community-wide effort to ensure that Jewish Omaha remains strong, vibrant, and prepared for the future.

I am especially excited that our kick-off event will feature Tessa Veksler, a powerful advocate for Jewish pride and leadership whose story has inspired audiences across the country. Her message of resilience and courage feels particularly meaningful as we begin a new campaign year.

What inspires me most, however, is not any single speaker, volunteer, or campaign goal. It is the collective impact created when thousands of people come together around a shared purpose. Every gift helps strengthen the programs, services, education, security, and community-building efforts that make Jewish life in Omaha possible. Every pledge represents a belief that we are stronger when we care for one another.

This year, we are adding even more excitement to our launch through The Generations of Giving Matching Challenge, honoring the Legacy of Howard Kooper. Every new and increased pledge made before or during the 24 hours following the Kick-Off event will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000, thanks to the generosity of the Howard and Sharon Kooper Foundation, Darlynn & Tom Fellman, Nancy & Joel Schlessinger, and an anonymous community leader. It is a powerful reminder that one act of generosity often inspires another.

As we begin this new campaign year, I am filled with gratitude for everyone who gives, volunteers, leads, and participates. Together, we are not simply raising funds. We are investing in a future where Jewish Omaha continues to thrive for generations to come.
