Parsha Naso

Like any good leader, Moses wanted to know clearly on whom he could rely as they prepared to charge into the “Promised Land.” Thus he took a census of the able bodied men who could be counted on to conquer the Canaanites and make that land eventually the Land of Israel.

We are left wondering, uncertain about the outcome; considerable time will pass before the assault on Canaan is to take place.

Although we have read this many times, the Sacred Text is so skillful that we find ourselves, as it were, still in doubt. We feel unsure about the final outcome of any charge into the many-times-Promised Land.

Patience, patience, therefore, patience!
