Jewish Omaha E-NEWS - June 9, 2017

June 9, 2017  |  15 Sivan 5777
From our CEO
More than 200 people came out to celebrate community volunteers and award winners at the 2017 Annual Meeting.  This year’s JFO Humanitarian of the Year was awarded to Dr. Howard Gendelman, a well-deserved honor for his medical research. A video of the evening is available below.
Wednesday evening we hosted a women’s event with author Janice Kaplan speaking on the importance of gratitude with 75 women (and 3 men!) in the audience. One of the many impactful moments for me was noticing the number of mothers and daughters or daughters-in-law attending together. Their presence together validates one of the findings from our community study – we found over 2/3rds of our community have offspring remaining in or moving back to Omaha. And many of them are involved with events and programming. We can all be grateful so many young families are returning to Omaha.
Save the date – our community wide event to discuss the study results will be August 24.
Shabbat Shalom,

YJO Volunteered at Food Bank
for the Heartland
On June 6, 2017, ten members of Young Jewish Omaha (YJO) volunteered at the Food Bank for the Heartland. They built, packed, and sealed boxes of food to ship to hungry folks around the Omaha community. YJO is a lay-led initiative of the Jewish Federation of Omaha, seeking to get young Jews to do “Jewish” with other young Jews (and their friends and loved ones). YJO is free, inclusive, and looking for you to get involved.

Find us on Facebook or contact Nate Shapiro to get on our e-mail list.
