Sept. 16, 2019, the Jewish Community of Omaha will come together at Temple Israel for the Annual Jewish Federation of Omaha Campaign Event. Themed, ‘A Night with the Stars,’ it promises to be something very special and you are all invited. Danny Cohn and Andrew Miller and Shane and Jess Cohn are chairing the event.
“We agreed to chair this evening,” Jess Cohn said, “because Shane and I are passionate about the Omaha Jewish Community and we feel this was a great opportunity to give back to the Federation in a meaningful way.”
Danny Cohn agrees:
“It’s important for all of us to come together as a community. I enjoy bringing people to the same place, not just to have special experiences, but to share them.”
The evening will have a unique program, Danny said.
“The theme our speaker, Joshua Malina, will bring, ‘How to make it in Hollywood and remain a mensch,’ is meaningful,” he said. “It’s hard enough to remain a mensch anywhere, whether you’re in Hollywood or in Omaha. It’s important to hear life lessons from people in other Jewish communities. No two communities are exactly the same. We live in a world that is forever changing; we must embrace the opportunity to learn from one another.”
In addition to the evening’s speaker, this event will highlight the various agencies within the Jewish Federation of Omaha. The event title “A Night with the Stars” refers both to our guest from Hollywood and to our agencies.
“We’re paying homage to the different departments who make this community what it is. People should understand the value of the Anti-Defamation League/Community Relations Committee, Jewish Family Service, the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home and Jewish Social Services, the Jewish Community Center with all its many facets and the Jewish Press,” Danny said. “When we ask ourselves how the Federation propels all these different agencies forward, we get a better understanding of how our dollars work.”
“We hope people will join us,” Shane and Jess Cohn said, “because this event will be an engaging and entertaining night, and we hope guests will be inspired to support the Jewish Federation of Omaha. Personally, we are incredibly excited to see Temple Israel transformed into a star-studded event! We’re also excited to hear Joshua Malina speak.”
Danny and Andrew agree:
“This is the high holiday of fundraising; we wouldn’t think of missing it because we know it is important to support our community, but also because we enjoy each other’s company. The social element during this annual event is very important—we need to schmooze! this is like a big family reunion, and who wants to miss that? Get dressed up, eat some fabulous food selected by Andrew and served family-style, hang out with your friends and remember who we are.”
The evening begins at 6 p.m. and will go until 8:15 p.m. Cost per ticket is $36; Dinner provided for this event is Kosher and under the supervision of the Va’ad HaKashrut.
The event is underwritten by Zoë and Carl Riekes and Margo and Steve Riekes, Kugler Vision and Republic National Distributing.
