Another epic pool party was enjoyed by Jewish Family Services’ Yachad and Ollie Webb program members on July 31!
The JCC Pool Party was made possible with the generous grant by the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) last year. The $5,000 Quality of Life grant was established to provide a collaborative fitness program for the Omaha and Jewish community’s group of adults with developmental disabilities.
This year’s pool party was the sixth event sponsored by the MDRT grant. Previous events have included: a pool party in 2015, River “Boat” Camp, a self-defense class, Zumba in the Park, and a hip hop dance party. In partnering with the Ollie Webb Center, Yachad members now have a larger group of friends to interact with. There were approximately 35 staff and group members in attendance. The group enjoyed a music D.J., dancing to the Macarena, singing, eating pizza, tossing beach balls, temporary tattoos, swimming, and socializing with their new and current friends. We must not forget the guest appearance by a land shark, which made for fantastic photo opportunities with the group. He also displayed some amazing dance moves!
Thanks to all who helped with this event but especially the MDRT Foundation and Jim Farber, who is the grant sponsor, JSS Board member, past President and long-time JFS supporter. The MDRT grant has opened up numerous opportunities that may have not been possible without this funding.
We cannot forget Mark Martin and his staff for the impeccable planning of the event and closing the fitness center pool to accommodate the party. The lifeguards, staff, caregivers, the music D.J. and the “shark” all joined in to make this a truly memorable evening. A splashin’ good time was had by all!
