Longtime Omaha resident Joseph Polonski passed away peacefully in his sleep July 25 at age 87.
He is survived by his wife, Bluma Polonski; daughters and sons-in-law, Sonia and John Breslow of Scottsdale, AZ, and Rose and Steve Viny of Cleveland, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Claire Polonski of Los Angeles; son, Lynn Polonski of Tucson, AZ, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Polonski, originally of Silvaki, Poland, was a survivor of the Holocaust. He is one of only two known individuals to escape from Treblinka, known as the most rigorous death camp created under the Nazi regime. After his escape, he served as an officer in the resistance, fighting Nazis until the liberation. Mr. Polonski was trained in electronics by ORT in Germany and came to the United States in 1949 to found Aksarben Television Service. He is best known by his friends for his kindness, compassion, and honesty.
