Today (Friday) most of the main ‘arba minim’ four species markets opened across Israel.  The Succot festival commences on this coming Sunday evening at sundown. With the solemn Yom Kippur festival completed last Wednesday evening, attention is now directed to a happier occasion when family and friends get together and eat their meals in the temporary Succot.  Despite no palm fronds being available from Egypt this year, there seems to be no shortage of locally grown fronds at reasonable prices.  A record number of overseas visitors have come to Israel for the festival and many will either participate or watch the annual Succot March in Jerusalem later in the week.
