Phyllis Sinton Fried passed away on Aug. 7 in Jacksonville, FL. Services were held Aug. 10 at Jacksonville Jewish Center Cemetery led by Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Stuart Fried; parents, Harry and Ida Sinton; brothers, Walter and Melvin Sinton; sister, Dorothy Sinton Steuer; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Venger Fried.
She is survived by her son, Richard Fried of Denver, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Henry Kopp of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Lauren and Jason Rubin of Tampa, FL, and Jessica Kopp of Savannah, GA; sisters-in-law, Ruth Sinton of Houston,TX, and Lois Sinton of Clearwater, FL., and nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
She is a graduate of Central High School, and lived most of her life in Omaha. In the years following World War II, she doubled as a homemaker and working mother, retiring after 26 years at N.P. Dodge Company, followed by additional years at Bemis Arts Center. Phyllis was a longtime member of Beth El and an active member of Hadassah, which honored her for her devotion to the Omaha chapter.
Memorials may be made to Beth El Synagogue, Nebraska Jewish Historical Society or Hadassah.
