The annual B’nai B’rith charity banquet always focuses on youth. The honoree, pictured right, was, as usual, a highly talented graduating high school senior, standout in the sports arena, the classroom, and the community.

Top ticket seller this year, Aaron Weiner, left; Coach Mike Leach of Washington State University; Mike Cassling, Gold sponsor of the banquet; and Laurie Meyers, the Earl Siegel Award honoree from Westside High School pose with autographed souvenirs from Nebraska’s favorite team.

The fundraiser supports Omaha Jewish youth through the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, which meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the JCC. The group provides an opportunity for high school students from all over the city and from all synagogues to learn and work together. Funds also support B’nai B’rith International programs. The family of the late Adam Jacobs, former Lodge president, provides a scholarship for the winners, and the Lodge sends a stipend to the schools of the winners.

Head Football Coach Mike Leach of Washington State University, best-selling author, part-time humorist and a record-holding offensive tactician for his teams headlined the event that was chaired by Howard Shandell.
