The Performing Arts Department of the Jewish Community Center strives to impart the joy and discipline of dance through a well-rounded program of high caliber dance instruction. Classes in pre-ballet, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, and modern dance are offered in a variety of levels with emphasis on technique, musicality, body awareness and the development of self-expression through movement.

Classes are taught in a caring, positive atmosphere by a faculty of qualified, experienced instructors. Limited class enrollment ensures individual personalized attention. The JCC houses one of the finest dance facilities in the area with fully equipped studios, a 340-seat theatre and live piano accompaniment for ballet classes. In addition to classes, students may participate in a variety of special programs: choreographic workshops and performance opportunities with local and nationally recognized artists, field trips to area dance events, dance films and special lectures.

As dance is a performing art, performance experience is an important element in dance training. Each year there is a culminating recital in May. Performances alternate each year between a grande story ballet and a themed show.

The dance program is open to JCC members and non-members. JCC members receive discounted rates and other benefits. If you’d like to join the JCC, please contact the Member Services Director at (402)334-6427.
