Swim Testing & Outdoor Policies
Summer is a wonderful and
busy time at the JCC. As with all of our programming, your safety in
the outdoor pool is our top priority. Our trained life guards are on
duty to supervise the waters to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe
time. In addition, any youth ages 10 and under (or swimmers that, at
the discretion of the Aquatics Staff, appear to be struggling) will be
swim tested. The swim test will consist of swimming from the wall
closest to the diving well on the west side of the pool to the lane line
and back to the wall. To receive a green wrist band and go off the
diving boards, the swim test must be completed strongly and using a
stroke. If the swimmer completes the swim test but struggles or does not
use some form of a stroke, they will receive a yellow wrist band and
will be able to swim in the shallow end of the lap pool with an adult
supervisor in the water with them. If the swimmer cannot complete the
swim, they will receive a red wrist band and will need to remain in the
baby pool with an adult supervisor. A swimmer may attempt the swim test
once a week, and after obtaining a green wrist band will be placed on
the green list, so that they may just check in at the towel desk to
retrieve their wrist band when entering the pool. All youth 10 and
under must wear a wrist band every time they swim, regardless of whether
they are with an adult or not.
