Group Swim Lessons

Group swim lessons are open to JCC members of all ages. Members will be placed in at a lesson level based upon their skills. By progressing through and completing each lesson level, students build their self-confidence and have a better grasp on each stroke. Call (402) 334-6473 to determine proper level placement. Participants will be reviewed and given an evaluation card at end of session. If you need more one-on-one attention, Private and Semi-Private Lessons.

Curriculum By Level

LEVEL 1: Intro to Water Safety

Level 1 swim lessons are great for kids ages 3-6, depending on their experience in the water. Kids will learn the importance of being safe in and around water, how to safely enter the water, how to blow bubbles and put their face in the water, and how to front/back float. As students learn to float, they will also learn the safety skill of how to roll from their front to their back when in the water. All lesson topics, especially body positioning and kicking, work to build self-confidence and familiarity with the water. Level 1 students are not allowed to swim alone.

LEVEL 2: Primary Water Skills
Level 2 lessons focus on building confidence and correcting body position while swimming. Students will work on front/back gliding, how to successfully kick while on their sides/back/ front, and how to streamline while kicking.

LEVEL 3: Stroke Readiness
Level 3 lessons are normally when a child’s self-confidence in the water greatly expands. Students will continue to perfect correct body positions and will focus on where to place their arms while swimming on both front and back. Students will also be introduced to the front crawl.

LEVEL 4: Stroke Development
By Level 4 children generally feel comfortable around water, allowing the focus of the lesson to be shifted onto the technical aspects of learning swim strokes. The basic components and proper body position for a successful breaststroke and butterfly stroke will be covered. Students will also learn how to change directions while swimming the breaststroke and butterfly. Flip turns and correct side breathing techniques will also be covered.

LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement
Level 5 lessons focus on swimming distances, refining each swim stroke, and perfecting head and body position while swimming and changing direction. After completing level 5 lessons, children are ready to join swim team.

We also offer Special Needs Adaptive Swim Lessons. Swimming lessons tailored to fit our special needs members of varied abilities.
