Swim Lesson Curriculum by Level / Age

LEVEL 1: Intro to Water  |  Ages 3-6
Level 1 swim lessons are great for kids ages 3-6, depending on their experience in the water. Kids will learn the importance of being safe in and around water, how to safely enter the water, how to blow bubbles and put their face in the water, and how to front/back float. As students learn to float, they will also learn the safety skill of how to roll from their front to their back when in the water. All lesson topics, especially body positioning and kicking, work to build self-confidence and familiarity with the water. Level 1 students are not allowed to swim alone.

LEVEL 2: Floating & Kicking  |  Ages 4-8

Level 2 lessons focus on building confidence and correcting body position while swimming. Students will work on front/back gliding, how to successfully kick while on their sides/back/ front, and how to streamline while kicking.

LEVEL 3: Position & Placement  |  Ages 6-10
Level 3 lessons are normally when a child’s self-confidence in the water greatly expands. Students will continue to perfect correct body positions and will focus on where to place their arms while swimming on both front and back. Students will be introduced to the front crawl.

LEVEL 4: Skill & Endurance  |  Ages 8-12
By Level 4 children generally feel comfortable around water, allowing the focus of the lesson to be shifted onto the technical aspects of learning swim strokes. The basic components and proper body position for a successful breaststroke and butterfly stroke will be covered. Students will learn how to change directions while swimming the breaststroke and butterfly. Flip turns and correct side breathing techniques will be covered.
