| Congratulations to Mark Martin, Jeanine Huntoon and the entire team at the Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center for earning the coveted NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation, the mark of quality in early childhood education. Mark shared his pride in his staff, the parents and the children of the CDC. I want to thank everyone involved for the hard work and diligence behind this achievement.
The 2016 Jewish Omaha Film Festival concluded last Sunday with the film Blind Hero. This second year collaboration between the Jewish Federation of Omaha and the Institute for Holocaust Education expanded the reach of both films and participants with over 550 people attending the five films. Great films are being released each year. If you would like to recommend a film or join the selection committee, please feel free to contact either Liz Feldstern or me.
Before several of the films, I introduced a survey to gather information to assist us in planning for the future. If you attended any of the films or have suggestions to make, please use this link https://respond.cc/ on either your phone or computer to complete a survey. The session key is 890424. I do appreciate your thoughts.
The Backyard Concert Series is taking this Sunday off but will be back on Sunday, September 11th. I hope to see you there.
Have a safe holiday weekend.

Headliner Rachel Shukert is flying in from LA especially for this event. She will be joined by Marty Shukert, Nate Shapiro, Ozzie Nogg, and Leonard Greenspoon. We are toasting Steve Riekes by highlighting one of his favorite topics, Jewish humor. We will experience Jewish humor and think about what makes it distinctively "Jewish." This is a wonderful chance to honor Steve by putting into action the type of educational event that he has championed for decades. As is fitting, Steve will have the last word on Sept. 18.
The Jewish Federation of Omaha (JFO) is delighted to announce the official start of the 2017 Annual Campaign. The Kehilla Cup kicked off on August 31st and our volunteers have started making their calls to reach out to many of you. The Kids' Campaign will kickoff at the Community Event on September 25th and conclude December 19th at the JCC Hanukkah
Extravaganza. We could not do any of these activities without our amazing volunteers.
The entire community is invited to celebrate together during the Federation Fair on
4 to 8 p.m.
at Dave and Buster's. Games, prizes, food and fun for the whole family.
We've kept the 2016 theme, "For Every Generation, Federation" intact, because it accurately describes why we do what we do. The Jewish Federation of Omaha touches all of us, from infants at the Pennie Z. Davis Childhood Development Center and students at Friedel Jewish Academy to dancers and actors at the JCC Cultural Arts Department. Maybe you have a family member at our excellent Rose Blumkin Jewish Home, you regularly participate in Mainstreeters, or you enjoy our annual Jewish Film Festival. Perhaps you come to the J for your daily workout, are a member of the book club, receive Meals on Wheels or receive scholarships - Federation and our Campaign touches us all in so many ways each and every day!
