Community Connections
This week through the annual "Historical Jewish Omaha Tour" we shared the history of Jewish Omaha with 5th and 6th graders from Friedel Jewish Academy, Beth El Synagogue, Beth Israel Synagogue, Temple Israel, and other Jewish students not currently affiliated with a synagogue. This is a great opportunity for our children to identify and connect with the Jewish community of Omaha and all of Nebraska.  These kinds of connections are important for they foster understanding, excitement and involvement. The most recent estimate of the number of Jews in  Nebraska is approximately 6,000. This number has been used regularly since the Omaha Jewish community did the first demographic study in 1975.  But it is more than a number.  It is a representation of the potential for all of us to enjoy our heritage and connect with one another through our common bond - our Judaism.  I encourage all of us to become involved and to stay involved in all that this community has to offer.

Shabbat Shalom,

Beth EL Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner honoring Rabbi Azriel
Friday, March 18, 6pm
Beth El welcomes the entire community to this very special evening. This event is co-chaired by Sandy & Jeff Passer and Sherry & Jeff Taxman.

"He has made a lasting impact on Temple Israel, the Omaha Jewish Community and the city of Omaha," commented Beth El Rabbi Steven Abraham. "Actually, we are honored that Rabbi Azriel is letting us honor him! I think it says a lot about a Rabbi when another congregation wants to pay its respects and honor him for commitment to our community."

Friday night services begin at 6 pm, followed by remarks from Rabbi Abraham, the evening's co-chairs and Rabbi Azriel. The evening concludes with a Shabbat dinner in Rabbi Azriel's honor. For Shabbat dinner reservations, call the Beth El office, 402-492-8550.

The JCC Dance Training Company provides the opportunity for dancers between the ages of 12 and 18 to learn choreography, refine technique, and to enjoy and share the art and love of dance through performance.  The Company has been working hard since August to put together a stunning concert for all to see.  Dance & Cultural Arts Director Esther Katz invites you to "Join us so we can share our hard work with you. Our dancers love to learn and love to perform - dance is to be shared and they are excited to share with you."  Following the concert there will be a dessert reception in the Gallery to celebrate the beautiful dance photography of JL Williams and Julian Adair.  Their work is currently on display in the Gallery for the entire month of March.  Now would be the perfect time to enjoy what they have created.

Tickets are on sale now - $5 for students and $10 for adults.  Patron tickets are also available.  Please contact Esther Katz for more details, ekatz@jccomaha.org or 402-334-6406.   Click here to learn more.

THAT
When it comes to the IDF, everyone has something to contribute.
If you believe that every person has worth, every person has worth.  According to a daily video from "Arutz Sheva," the IDF is harnessing skills of autistic soldiers for army service.  Watch THAT in action by clicking on this video.

THE OTHER THING
What do UCLA students know about Israel?
This random "street survey" on the campus of UCLA provides insight into how much this group of students knows about Israel.  Is this true for all college students?
