E-News - July 21, 2017
July 21, 2017  |  27 Tamuz 5777

From our CEO...
Did you see the article in yesterday's New York Times on Operation Good Neighbor?  Over the last year, hundreds of sick Syrian children have been brought quietly into Israel for  care.  And tons of supplies - antibiotics, food, fuel, even baby formula have been taken into Syrian villages from Israel.  This aid began in June, 2016 and is reaching an area inhabited by about 200,000 Syrians, including roughly 400 displaced families living in tent encampments along the Israeli-Syrian boundary on the Golan Heights.

Now juxtapose this news with the clashes continuing in the Old City of Jerusalem over security measures put in place following last week's shooting of two Israeli police officers on the Temple Mount.  Metal detectors at the entrance gates and additional security cameras were added to focus on the safety of pilgrims and visitors to this holy site.

We learned in our community study that 95% of Jewish respondents agree with the statement "I am proud to be Jewish."  78% agree "I have  strong sense of belonging to the Jewish people."  And 85% of Jewish households donate to charity.  These two stories, despite how they are perceived around the globe, bring these sentiments home to me and reinforce what I have always known - our community is proud to be Jewish and we have a strong sense of belonging to the Jewish people and caring for those in need.

To learn more come to the JCC on Thursday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. for the Community Study Forum.

Shabbat Shalom,
Alan Potash

During each concert, a local youth group will be selling desserts as a fundraiser.

Canned meats such as chicken and salmon are also appreciated. Look for the blue bins! Please no expired items.

All concerts are from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the pavilion! In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the JCC Theater.

Use the TAGG App to give back to the Federation!
With just 7 community members, so far, we earned $27 from the last reporting period.  If we had 70 people using the app, that would equate to $270 or about $3,000 for the year...enough to fund 3 Jewish Experience Grants to help families send their kids to Jewish summer camps.  Thanks to our "early TAGG adopters".

Download  the TAGG app and the next time you shop at any of the 200+ TAGG businesses they will  donate 5% of your purchase price to the JFO!
